Cher has issued an apology after she ruffled feathers with comments about George Floyd.

“I know Ppl Apologize When They’re In a Jam,BUT TO GOD,IM TRULY SORRY If I Upset AnyOne In Blk Community.I Know My [heart],” the Grammy award-winner said.

Her apology comes after she came under fire Friday (April 2) for saying she believes she could have saved Floyd’s life.

In now deleted tweet she wrote: “Was talking With Mom & She Said “I Watched Trial Of Policeman Who Killed George Floyd,& Cried”. I Said “Mom,I Know This Is Gonna Sound CRAZY,But.. I Kept Thinking …..Maybe If I’d Been There,…I Could’ve Helped”

It didn’t take long for social media users to react in her mentions.

The following day she appeared to double down writing: “Wrestled With This Twt, Because I Thought some ppl wouldn’t understand, Or Believe an Entertainer Could have Honest emotions about a human Being, suffering & Dying, even if It’s Only Shown On tv. You Don’t Know What I’ve Done,Who I Am,Or What I Believe.I CAN,I HAVE,& I WILL..HELP”

For the past week the world’s attention has returned to Floyd as former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin’s trial has begun. Cher posted another message expressing her sadness about Floyd’s death said she was overwhelmed with emotion.

Chauvin is currently on trial for second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. He has pleaded not guilty and maintains that he was following police training when he held his neck on Floyd’s neck for nearly 9 minutes.
