Michael Blackson is making a bold proclamation about the upcoming Coming To America sequel. As previously reported Blackson has a role in Coming 2 America. He told HipHollywood he can’t say much else but did proclaim it’s better than the original.

“When I read the script I was like whoever wrote this is a genius,” said Blackson. ” It’s like the first one plus more.”

The sequel to the 1988 comedy — known as Coming 2 America, naturally — will star Murphy and Arsenio Hall reprising their roles as Prince Akeem and Semmi. James Earl Jones will also return as Akeem’s father, King Jaffe Joffer, with Paul Bates as royal servant Oha.

Also joining the cast are Jermaine Fowler, Kiki Lane and Wesley Snipes who will play a new character named General Izzi, who rules a neighboring country to Zamunda (homeland of Murphy’s Prince Akeem). Then there’s SNL stars Tracy Morgan, Leslie Jones, music stars Rick Ross and Teyana Taylor who are also rumored to be in the film.

The sequel will also reunite Murphy, with director Craig Brewer, who worked together on the upcoming biopic Dolemite Is My Name. Paramount announced that Coming 2 America is slated to hit theaters on August 7, 2020.
