5 Things We Know About Niecy Nash’s Wife Jessica Betts

Surprise! Niecy Nash is married … to a woman. The Claws actress shocked fans when she announced on her Instagram page that she just wed singer Jessica Betts.

“Mrs. Carol Denise Betts,” she captioned the photo from their wedding and also included the diamond ring emoji and the hashtag #LoveWins.”  In her Instagram Stories she also shared a pic of the couple, but instead wrote “#PlotTwist.”

News of Nash’s nuptials comes less than a year after she announced her split from husband Jay Tucker. The couple, who married in 2011 announced in October 2019 that they were divorcing after eight years of marriage.

Nash has three children — Dominic, Donielle and Dia — from her previous 15-year marriage to Don Nash, whom she filed for divorce from in June 2007.

According to Out.com Nash’s wedding post is also her coming out. Over the years she has been a huge supporter of the LGBTQ community but her has never claimed to be queer.

She Was Signed To Boyz II Men’s Record Label

 

In 1998 at just 16, Jessica was signed to Boyz II Men’s label, Stonecreek Records. She also got a chance to record with the Grammy Award winning group. In 2000 her single “Get Up” was featured on the Big Mama’s House soundtrack.

She’s Performed With Wyclef Jean

Betts is an accomplished singer/ songwriter from Chicago. On her social media she posted a video performing with Wyclef Jean, and also received a shout out from rap star Warren G promoting her 2014 mixtape #LLcoolJess. She’s also worked alongside Timbaland, Missy Elliott and Brian Michael Cox.

She Won “The Road To Stardom With Missy Elliott”

Back in 2005 she appeared on the short-lived UPN competition series “The Road To Stardom With Missy Elliott” and was the season 1 winner. She was only 23-years-old at the time. Elliott was a judge for the series and was joined by Dallas Austin, Teena Marie and Mona Scott Young.

While their relationship is new to fans, it appears the pair have known each other for quite some time. Back in 2016, Betts posted a video of Nash shouting out her new album. “Jessica Betts is an artist that feeds you soul,” said Nash. “Get in to it. I love you Jessica.”

The singer has also appeared on the Nash led queer inclusive TNT series Claws. In 2018 she played the role of Nadege in one episode of the series. Following her appearance Nash posted a photo on set and referred to Betts as her “homegirl.” In January she also posted a photo from set with the caption “Nadege is back! Claws season 4.”
