The class of 2020 has been dealt some crushing blows, but maybe this will softening the sting. While they won’t be able to walk across the stage to celebrate their graduation, they will get to hear an inspiring commencement speech from the one and only, Oprah Winfrey!
Ms. Winfrey has been tapped to be the speaker for the #Graduation 2020: Facebook and Instagram Celebrate the Class of 2020, a multi-hour streaming event set for May 15 on both platforms. COVID-19 may have taken their proms, parties, and more, but FB and IG are hoping to give them at least one memorable moment to end their high school/college careers with a virtual graduation.
According to Deadline, the event will also feature words of wisdom from Lil Nas X, Simone Biles, Awkwafina, Jennifer Garner, and more to be announced soon. Plus, Miley Cyrus is scheduled for a special performance of her hit song, “The Climb.”
The video will be broadcast on Facebook Watch and available at facebook.com/facebookapp. Individual segments will be posted to the @instagram account on Instagram, as well as contributors’ social media accounts.
