They’ve been married for 20+ years, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic quarantine Jada Pinkett Smith has realized she doesn’t know her husband, Will Smith … like, at all!
Jada revealed this shocking news while sitting next to her daughter Willow, and mother Adrienne, for the latest episode of Red Table Talk. In addition to family, Jada and Will’s long-time counselor Michaela Boehm sat in on the conversation to provide insight and advice to other couples experiencing the same ah-ha moments during this extended period of isolation.
Quarantining while coupling can be hard, and stress can bring out the worst in folks, but it can also bring you to a greater understanding of yourself. Adrienne opened up about navigating her control issues, Willow opened up about needing to have self-reflective moments, and Jada tapped into her anger issues. And in realizing she more “fight” than “flight”, Jada realized she doesn’t know the man she married and had two kids with.
“I gotta be honest. I think one of the things that I’ve realized is that I don’t know Will at all,” she said. “I feel like there’s a layer that you get to, life gets busy and you create these stories in your head and then you hold onto these stories and that is your idea of your partner, that’s not who your partner is,” she said.
Thankfully, the 48-year-old actress said she is taking this time in isolation to get to know who her 51-year-old husband is today.
“[I’m] going through the process of having to dissolve all of those stories and all the ideas of Will,” she said, adding, “This is intimacy. Just being able to get to who our loved ones are beyond that which we have perceived.”
Do you feel Jada? How’s you coupling while quarantining going?
