Taraji P. Henson attempted to have a “woke” moment on social media and it undoubtedly backfired in her face.
On Tuesday the Empire star actress faced backlash after she tried to compare the public’s treatment of R. Kelly to that of Harvey Weinstein.
Henson shared several (now deleted) posts on her Instagram Story comparing how many #MuteRKelly posts there were versus #MuteHarveyWeinstein.
Many quickly reminded Henson that R. Kelly is a musician, thus making it feasible to mute him while Weinstein is a film executive who sits behind the scenes. However, many also revealed that Weinstein is actually facing charges for his alleged sex crimes while Kellz only has a hashtag so far.
Henson took to Twitter shortly after folks threatened to cancel her to make it clear she is does not support R Kelly.
“LET ME BE CLEAR R. KELLY IS GUILTY AND WRONG AND SHOULD BE MUTED PERIOD!!!!,” she wrote.
Henson comments came just days after her “What Men Want” co-star, singer Erykah Badu, also angered fans over the weekend when she reportedly said during a Chicago concert that Kelly deserved love.
