Looks like the wait is over! After being locked up for seven months Kodak Black is a free man!
The Florida rapper was released from Broward County Jail around midnight after serving majority of his year long sentence.
Video surfaced online of the 21-year-old emerging from the jail and lets just say he seemed extremely happy to be finally out.
Last month, Bradford Cohen, Kodak’s attorney, confirmed that the judge agreed to shorten his sentence.
“All I can say is, I work very hard to try and give all of my clients a second chance,” Cohen said to Pitchfork. “We were lucky that the matter concerning […] Kodak was resolved in a way we felt was extremely fair by the prosecutor handling the matter. He looks forward to getting out and creating new music and spreading his charity work.”
Kodak, whose real name is Dieuson Octave, was publically arrested back in January when police raided his home while he was on Instagram Live. His charges included grand theft of a firearm, child neglect without great bodily harm, possession of marijuana, two counts of possession of a weapon by a felon, as well as two of probation violation charges. Luckily 5 of his 7 charges were eventually dropped before he pleaded to two lesser charges of driving with a suspended license and “associating with people committing crime” which shielded him from a hefty 12 year sentence.
Word on the street is he skipped his “Welcome Home” party to spend time with his mother and he’s ready to get back in the studio.
Hopefully he has learned his lesson this time around.
