In Hollywood, there are a handful of major acknowledgments that every star reaches for: An Academy Award, an Emmy and up until almost two years ago … the approval of Prince Rogers Nelson.
For actress Yara Shahidi, the star has officially earned one; the support of the late Prince.
While on a recent episode of The Talk, the beauty opened up about her family’s connection with the legendary singer. “My father worked for him for two decades as his photographer for ten years, and so I grew up in Minnesota or on tour,” she said.
According to the 18-year-old, prior to the musician’s passing, the singer sent her a special note on Twitter expressing how much he enjoyed Black-ish. “He had just reached out to say how proud he was, how he was a fan of the show, but it really signified how supportive he was of my family,” she said.
Yara was born to African-American mother, Keri Salter Shahidi and an Iranian-American father, Afshin Shahidi.
