Bill Cosby’s daughter, Ensa, has died at the age of 44.
The family spokesman confirmed the tragic news in a statement that read: “The Cosby Family thanks many people for their prayers for their beloved and beautiful Ensa, who recently died from renal disease.”
According to reports, Ensa, who was apparently awaiting a kidney transplant, passed away on Friday night in Massachusetts.
The 44-year-old’s untimely death falls just one month before her father’s sexual assault re-trial. Ensa, who appeared on an episode of The Cosby Show, was one of a few people to support her father after dozens of women came forward alleging Cosby drugged or raped them.
“My father has been publicly lynched in the media and my family, my young daughter, my young niece and nephew have had to stand helplessly by and watch the double standard or pretending to protect the rights of some but ignoring the rights of others,” she said in a statement last year.
She added, “I strongly believe my father is innocent of the crimes alleged against him and I believe that racism has played a big role in all aspects of this scandal.”
This is not the first time Cosby has lost a child. The actor’s son, Ennis, was murdered in January 1997 while changing a flat tire on the side of the 405 freeway in Los Angeles.
Out thoughts are with the Cosby family.
