All hands are on deck with the forthcoming BET New Edition mini-series.
There were recent reports suggesting that Bobby Brown, who was one of the original members of the group, would not be involved in New Edition: The Movie, but according to Johnny Gill, the singer is completely hands on. “He has been working with the two kids [Woody McClain] that are playing him and his character,” Gill told HipHollywood exclusively.
And despite being involved in the biopic, it appears as though Brown is still fighting to overcome his battle with addiction. “There is no secret. I don’t think I’m sitting here telling anybody anything different, understanding that that disease he has to battle. You make some great decisions and some decisions you make are not very good and clear,” Gill explained.
The singer continued, “That disease, it’s powerful … We have to be there, you have to pray, you have to be there to support and you have to continue to also make sure that you’re going to move forward so those things don’t affect how you have to continue to live life.”
Earlier this year, a source close to the singer revealed that Brown had re-entered a rehab facility in California for an apparent alcohol and cocaine addiction. At the time his wife, Alicia Etheridge, denied the claims.
Back in 2012, however, following the death of Brown’s ex-wife, Whitney Houston, Bobby admitted that he received treatment for substance abuse after being clean for seven years.
In February 2013, Brown was charged with DUI and was sent to an 18-month rehab program.
