Everyone is going Barbie crazy, including the stars of the highly anticipated movie.
HipHollywood sat down with cast members Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, and Michael Cera about shooting the Greta Gerwig directed film and their hilarious characters.
In the film Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling play original Barbie and Ken while McKinnon plays ‘Weird Barbie’, Rae plays ‘President Barbie’ and Cera plays Allan — a discontinued friend of Ken doll introduced in 1964.
When asked if she can do the splits like her character in the film, McKinnon said no before being coaxed into trying on camera by Rae.
Cera also revealed he didn’t know much about Allan before taking the role, especially theories that he was the one to impregnate the doll Midge, also featured in the film.
“I don’t personally endorse that theory,” he said while McKinnon and Rae joked Allan should get his own spinoff. “I think Allan is a very solitary figure, I don’t think he’s made that kind of connection with anybody.”
Meanwhile Rae revealed she only had 24 hours to learn the dance numbers in the film and also had a fake Barbie doll growing up as a kid.
“My first one for sure was the 99-cent version and I knew it was wrong,” she laughed. “It didn’t look like the other Barbies that I had seen, she was like limber in a way that she shouldn’t be. It was definitely like ‘Corner Barbie.”
Barbie is in theaters now.
