Ron Funches Says He Was Scared Of Danny DeVito Filming Disney+ Movie

Ron Funches is known for voicing some fun and fearless characters like King Shark on the DC Comics TV series Harley Quinn, Fox in the TBS/Adult Swim TV series Final Space and Cooper in Trolls World Tour.

But for his latest role voicing Murphy the rabbit in Disney+’s The One and Only Ivan he admits he was kind of scared. Funches told HipHollywood he worked closely with Danny DeVito in studio and the experience had him shook.

“I was scared of him most of the time, but I learned a lot,” he admitted. “In my eyes and everyone’s eyes he’s a legend, his stature is gigantic. When you meet him you feel that.”

In the film DeVito voices the character Bob a stray terrier and best friend of Ivan, a gorilla who headlines a small shopping-mall circus act. Meanwhile Angelina Jolie provides the voice of the clan’s matriarch, a quiet and wise elephant named Stella. (Jolie is also one of the film’s producers.) Helen Mirren voices a fluffy poodle, Chaka Khan is a wisecracking chicken, and “Hamilton” star Phillipa Soo is a repetitive parrot named Thelma.

For Funches, who got his start doing stand-up in Portland, Oregon, landing the role was beyond his wildest dream.

“I’d say it’s a dream come true if I ever dreamed that big,” he laughed. “I never thought I’d end up in a movie with a bunch of A-list stars, but it’s just amazing to me.”

“I love the thing that a lot of people made fun of me for, my voice, people are enjoying,” he said.

You can see The One And Only Ivan also starring Bryan Cranston on Disney+ now.
