Jacquees has been vocal during the recent Black Lives Matter uprising, but he feels no pressure to be. The R&B singer says he’s careful to do his part, but not go too far.

If you’ve taken a look at Jacquees’s Instagram feed, you’ll see someone who is civically engaged and using his platform to fight for justice. But, you’ll also see a fun loving, 26-year-old that enjoys hitting the studio, turning up, and hanging out with friends. For the singer, that’s balance. It’s also reflective of how he views his role in speaking out against police brutality and the systemic racism that has oppressed people that look like him.

“I went to school with white and Blacks,” Jacquees revealed during our interview. “I never saw color for real … I never judged them.” With that upbringing, Que is cognizant of how he broaches the fight for an anti-rascist society. “You gotta understand, everybody not evil … it’s just so messed up that some people got caught up in that wave and we judge them off of that.” The “You” singer continued, “We gotta pull back and not judge the people that aren’t like that, but the people that are like that we gotta take them all up through there.”

It’s an unexpected take from Jacquees … but you gotta watch the full thing below to really grasp his understanding.
