Stephen Jackson Mourns Friend George Floyd Who He Called "Twin"

George Floyd’s death while in police custody Monday has caused outrage across Minnesota and the nation, and hit close to home for former Warriors forward Stephen Jackson.

Jackson and Floyd were close friends, and even had a nickname for each other: “Twin.”

“This is what I gotta wake up to, huh?” a visibly emotional Jackson said in a video he posted on Instagram on Tuesday. “This is what I gotta wake up to. Floyd was my brother, man. We called each other “Twin,” bruh. Everybody know me and Floyd called each other “Twin.” My brother was only out there in Minnesota, he was changing his life, he went to Minnesota, he was driving trucks. I just sent him two, three boxes of clothes. My boy was doing what he was supposed to do, man, and y’all go kill my brother, man. I’m on my way to Minnesota, man. Whatever I can do, can’t let this ride, dog. Y’all not going to be mad until it hits your front door. Bull—t.”

Jackson and Floyd grew up together in the Houston, Texas area. According to Jackson, the 46 year old was also a star athlete in high school. He shared some 10 photos and memories of Floyd who he said recently moved to Minnesota to get a fresh start and drive trucks. Jackson also shared that Floyd was a loving father and vowed to help bring his killers to justice.

“These days the only crime U get killed for is Being Black,” he caption on a photo of Floyd in a football uniform. “Rest Easy Twin. Starting tight end 92. Made it to state championship. Bruh wasn’t no bum. Had hoop game too. U will know who Floyd was. Nobodies perfect but Floyd was loved by everybody when he’s friends wasn’t. Just the facts u gotta be from HTown to know what I’m saying. Rest Easy Twin we riding for ya.”

On Tuesday the four Minneapolis police officers involved in Floyd’s death were fired. On Wednesday Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey also called for the officer whose knee was on Floyd’s neck to be arrested.
