Celebrities React to DMX’s Death: LL Cool J, Snoop Dogg, Nas & More

As the world mourns the loss of rap legend DMX his friends and fellow hip hop collaborators are also expressing their love for him on social media.

As previously reported, DMX — born Earl Simmons — died on Friday after being on life support following an April 2 drug overdose. He was 50. Def Jam Recordings, tweeted a statement on Friday shortly after the news broke, saying in part that he was “nothing less than a giant.”

DMX’s Ruff Ryder crew shared special messages on social media including his longtime producer and friend Swizz Beatz.

“I’m truly beyond devastated !!!!!!,” he wrote. “But I’m so happy my brother is no longer in pain. I watched him take everyone’s pain and make it his own I send my love and support to his entire family. My brother, we will never let them forget your name, and you will live forever F.A.M.E. Long live King DMX THE GREAT AKA my brother 4 Life Earl Simmons.”

LL Cool J who worked with X during the early days of his career wrote, “You did everything you came to do. You impacted the world. You went from the underdog to the Big Dog. I’m honored we got to work together.”

Snoop Dogg who just shared the stage with DMX during their Verzuz battle also posted photos and videos with his friend writing: “Love u brother. C u when I get there” with a white dove and praying hands emoji.

Rapper T.I. posted a message about DMX on Twitter alongside a snippet of the music video for his song ‘Slippin’. “Rest In Peace to a cultural icon. There are no words that can mend the loss the hip-hop community felt today,” he wrote.

Meanwhile Viola Davis shared a black and white photo of the Ruff Ryder’s MC with the caption, “I pray for the comfort of your children and loved ones.”

Besides rapping DMX also had a career as and actor starring in a string of films in the late 90s and 2000s. Most notably was Romeo Must Die opposite late singer Aaliyah and Belly starring Nas.

Director Ava DuVernay paid tribute to DMX and spoke about his immense talent as an actor.
