Brandy Is Returning TV, Cast In New ABC Show 'Queens'

Brandy is returning to a TV near you.

Hot on the heels of Disney+ bringing Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella to the streaming platform, B-Rocka has been cast in a new pilot for ABC called Queens. The Grammy winner singer will star opposite some other queens — Eve, Naturi Naughton and Pepi Sonuga in the hip-hop drama.

According to The Hollywood Reporter the show centers on four women in their 40s who reunite for a chance to recapture their fame and regain the swagger they had as the Nasty Bitches— a ’90s group that made them legends in the hip-hop world.

Brandy will play Naomi, formerly known as Xplicit Lyrics, who thought her undeniable talent would make her the Beyoncé of the group when they broke up. When the group gets back together, Naomi is reunited with the only man she ever loved, as well as the rival bandmate who stole that man from her. But what Naomi wants more than anything is to build a relationship with the daughter she was never really there for.

Brandy shared news about the show on her Instagram account on Monday in honor of International Women’s Day.

“For all my #Queens! So excited to share this news with y’all,” she wrote. “Thank you God for allowing me to bring my two loves music and acting together!”

Brandy’s most recent TV role was on Fox’s Star. She also co-starred on The Game and got her start in television on the UPN sitcom Moesha. In addition to acting, Brandy will also contribute original music to the series. No word on when Queens will debut ABC … but it definitely sounds interesting.
