“I have to say Gods timing is unparelled,” she said. “The fact of receiving the Lady Of Soul Award and receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the 20 year anniversary fo the debut it’s like ‘Oh my gosh.’ This is like an incredible moment.”

Unfortunately the news isn’t sitting too well with Murder Inc head honcho Irv Gotti. He said on social media that Ashanti was trying to steal back her masters, which he apparently owns.

“I produced all those great Ashanti albums,” Gotti commented on Instagram. “So I also own a good portion of the Publishing. What she is trying to do is re-record all those great records. And put them out on her label. She can do this under the COVER laws. But she is basically trying to fuck me out of my Masters. And make people decide which album to listen too or stream. Hoping her loyal fans will choose her version.” Gotti added that he was curious to see if Ashanti could “duplicate” the magic that he created on the original version. “It’s f**ked up really,” Irv wrote. “But such is life.”

Ashanti declined speaking about Irv during our chat. She told us the Lady Of Soul honor has extra special meaning after being crowned the “Aretha Franklin Entertainer of Year” at the Lady Of Soul Awards back in 2003.

The singer / songwriter recently revealed she officially owns her masters. The 41-year-old is also slated to receive a star on the HOF in 2022 just in time for the 20th anniversary of her self-titled debut album.

The 2021 “Soul Train Awards” is going down at the Apollo Theater in New York. Tisha Campbell and Tichina Arnold return to host the show which will air on BET on Sunday, November 28th at 8 PM ET/PT on BET and BET Her.
