Power Book 3 star Malcolm Mays received a ton of backlash after it was reported he would be doing a reboot of the 90s classic ‘New Jack City.’ Well we caught up with the Mays where he claims he was misquoted.
“So New Jack City was misquoted as a remake, it’s actually a sequel,” he said. “So in fact New Jack City 2 takes place in modern day and there a lot of recall but it’s not actually based in the 90s.”
One person who may or may not be happy with this news is the original ‘New Jack City’ star Wesley Snipes. Back in 2019, Snipes said he wanted nothing to do with the new project.
“I’m not associated with it, you know,” he told Shadow And Act. “I’m having nothing to do with it at all. I think some things should be left alone.”
He continued: “I don’t particularly like the idea of recreating drug culture. They actually talked to me about doing it and I told them no. If I had a dime for every time I’ve said no… It’s a done deal, it’s a wrap.”
Hopefully Wesley sees this interview and has a change of heart but until then don’t forget to catch the premiere of Power Book 3: Raising Kanan this Sunday, July 18th on STARZ!
