Prince Harry and Meghan Markle dropped some bombshells during their Oprah interview on Sunday night, and now, two days later, Buckingham Palace has finally responded.
Between the concerns about Archie’s skin tone, to the flat out lies that were continuously perpetuated by “The Firm,” Harry and Meghan’s revelations about their relationship with the Royal Family were shocking and explosive to say the least. And clearly, it has affected the Palace so much so that they felt the need to issue a statement in response to the allegations:
“The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan. The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”
Two things are noticeably absent from this statement: A denial … and an apology. Queen Elizabeth II and crew didn’t deny that the family left Meg, Harry, and Archie vulnerable to falsehoods and racism, but they also didn’t apologize for the family strife and turmoil. However, they did suggestion that even if conversations around race and other issues were had, that the interpretations of those conversations may have been varied.
The statement doesn’t do much in the way of repairing a fratured public image that the Palace now has here in the states. For the most part, folks on this side of the pond are team Meg & Harry and would rather seem some sort of acknowledgement from the Royal Family instead of a vague, we’ll handle this behind closed doors, feeling.
Hopefully, this will be an opportunity for growth from Palace insiders, instead of something to hide. But, only time will tell. Story developing…
