Nicki Minaj’s Father Killed In Hit-And-Run Accident
We are sending prayers to Nicki Minaj and her family.
It’s been reported that the rap stars’ father Robert Maraj, died over the weekend after being struck by a vehicle in Long Island, New York.
According to the Nassau County Police Department, Mr. Maraj was walking in the roadway near the intersection of Roslyn Road and Raff Avenue at around 6:15 p.m. on Friday when he was hit by a northbound vehicle that left the scene. The 64-year-old was transported to a hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries. He was pronounced dead by a hospital doctor on Saturday (Feb 13).
The Nassau County Police Department Homicide Squad is investigating. According to TMZ witnesses were unable to give authorities a description of the suspect. Detectives are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 244-TIPS.
A representative for Nicki confirmed her father’s death but did not provide further details. Minaj has spoken about her troubled relationship with father in past interviews.
In a 2012 “Nightline” appearance, she discussed his drug and alcohol abuse, telling an interviewer, “My father was abusive. … We were afraid for [my mother’s] life because whenever he would have a real bad outburst, he would threaten to kill her.”
Minaj later told The New York Times he didn’t abuse her, but that he was abusive. She and her father appeared to be on good terms in 2015 when they were photographed (picture above) at her brother’s wedding.
She has not yet released a statement regarding his passing.
