Chico DeBarge Arrested For Drug Possession And Impersonating Brother

We’re sending up a huge prayer for singer Chico Debarge.

The singer and member of the legendary DeBarge family has been charged with drug possession, DUI and false impersonation for allegedly pretending to be his brother, James DeBarge during a traffic stop.

According to TMZ, Chico, real name Jonathan Arthur DeBarge was pulled over in Burbank, Calif. for driving with his headlights off. The vehicle also didn’t have a license plate. He allegedly didn’t have his drivers license on him, but reportedly told police he was his brother James DeBarge.

He reportedly had two women in the car with him when police found methamphetamines and heroin. He was taken into custody and correctly identified as himself.  He was released on bail Friday, Jan. 22nd, after spending 10 days in jail. 

Chico’s admittedly struggled with addiction for years and based his 2009 album, aptly titled Addiction, on his drug usage. This is his latest arrest after also getting booked in 2019 and 2007 for drug possession. He also spent 5 years in jail (1989 -1994) for drug possession and trafficking.

His famous siblings El, Mark, Randy and Bunny DeBarge have also struggled with drug addiction. Before falling on hard times Chico released two solo albums in the late 80s. In the 90s he returned to music and had a string of hits including the track “No Guarantee” with Joe.
