Why Are Black Women And White Women Switching Instagram Accounts?

Have you heard? Black women will speak from the Instagram accounts of white women who have large platforms in an effort to amplify their voices. It’s like Trading Spaces — kinda — but with a much bigger impact.

The initiative is called #ShareTheMicNow and it aims to highlight what we all know to be true — Black women are clutch and should be listened to at all cost. According to @ShareTheMicNow:

The intention of this campaign is to magnify Black women and the important work that they’re doing in order to catalyze the change that will only come when we truly hear each other’s voices.

On Wednesday, June 10th, a number of influential and conscious Black women, including Tarana Burke, Kahlana Barfield Brown, Bozoma Saint John, Cari Champion, and more, speak from the Instagram accounts of prominent white women including Julia Roberts, Kourtney Kardashian, Senator Elizabeth Warren, Brené Brown, and more.
