Music legend Bill Withers passed away on Monday at the age of 81. His family confirmed the news on Friday stating the singer died due to complications from a “heart condition”.
“We are devastated by the loss of our beloved, devoted husband and father. A solitary man with a heart driven to connect to the world at large, with his poetry and music, he spoke honestly to people and connected them to each other. As private a life as he lived close to intimate family and friends, his music forever belongs to the world.””
William “Bill” Harrison Withers Jr. was born on July 4, 1938, in Slab Fork, W.Va. He rose to fame in the 70s with the release of his debt album, “Just as I Am,” and a string of hits that are not uncommon to still hear today. Bill was the recipient of three Grammy awards, an NAACP Image Award, and a slew of other honors.
