The 4th Annual American Black Film Festival (ABFF) Honors was not only lit, but full of surprises. HipHollywood was inside the Beverly Hilton Hotel for the star-studded award ceremony Sunday night and was shocked along with the everyone else when Hollywood mega-star Leonardo DiCaprio took the stage.
The Academy Award winner was on hand to present his good pal Jamie Foxx with the prestigious “Excellence in the Arts” Award. Foxx was equally surprised to see his Django Unchained co-star and even began tearing up during his presentation.
Afterward he took the mic, and in true Foxx fashion, cracked jokes about how the Titanic star had the audience shook. He also spoke about their friendship, how they partied together over the years and how much of a hip hop fan DiCaprio is.
“I’m just going to be honest — we’ve partied in some situations where no cell phones were allowed and I watched him rap ‘Scenario,’ ” Foxx said of the A Tribe Called Quest hit. The Ray star then proceeded to launch into rapping the beginning of the song as he encouraged DiCaprio to sing along.
After DiCaprio shook his head and laughed, Foxx continued, “But I love you man. You are my friend. You are my colleague and this means the world.”
Additional honorees from the night, hosted by Deon Cole, included Academy Award winner Louis Gossett, Jr. with the Hollywood Legacy Award presented by CCH Pounder; EmmyⓇ Award winning producer, writer, and actress, Lena Waithe with the prestigious Industry Renaissance Award presented by Justin Simien and Melina Matsoukas, Academy Award nominee Cynthia Erivo with the Rising Star Award presented by Tiffany Haddish and “The Wire” with the Classic Television Award presented by Chris Spencer.
