Cynthia Erivo is winning! The “Harriet” star has received rave reviews for her portrayal of the abolitionist, but before the film hit the big screen the haters were already attacking Erivo.
When Cynthia was cast to play the starring role in “Harriet”, folks were upset about her British ancestry and her tweets from years ago showing a lack of knowledge about the U.S. and it’s relationship with slavery. Although, Erivo spent many interviews assuring people that her beliefs and level of knowledge had changed significantly over the years, they just wouldn’t let it be. That is, until the work spoke for itself!
Now that the haters have been silenced, we asked Erivo if her current onslaught of accolades and recognition was a bit of a ‘hi, haters’ moment. “I try to just concentrate on the work and the things that are coming from it,” Cynthia told us while at the Golden Globes. “I hope that some lives have been changed … I don’t want to revel in anyone’s defeat or anything, it’s not about that.”
Of course, Erivo took the high road. But, while she’s being PC, we’ll be petty for her, ‘hiiiiii haters!!!’
