Surprise! D’Angelo Drops First Album In 14 Years

No one saw this coming!

After a 14 year hiatus, D’angelo decided to shock the world and drop an album Beyonce style. No press, no promotion, not even a buzz single — the album Black Messiah seemingly appeared out of nowhere. Well, maybe not “out of nowhere”.

In 2012, D hopped back on stage for the first time since promoting his 2000 album, VooDoo. During his performance at Jay Z’s “Made In America” festival, the soulful singer debuted two new tracks that intimately made it to Black Messiah, “The Charade” and “Sugah Daddy”. Just a few days before releasing this latest project, D’Angelo shared a 15-second teaser of the album on Youtube. But still, no one knew December 15th would be the big day.

Black Messiah is also the first album credited to D’Angelo and the Vanguard. You can take a listen to the album on Spotify or purchase it on iTunes.

Welcome back, D’Angelo!
