Loni Love Weighs In On The Gayle King Kobe Controversy

Loni Love still has nothing but love for Gayle King.

The Real host and comedian extended nothing but grace and kindness while speaking about King in the aftermath of her controversial sit-down with Lisa Leslie regarding late NBA star Kobe Bryant.

“As far as Gayle, I know she is a very smart woman, I know she is a very reflective woman, and according to her there were somesthings taken out of context,” she said before expressing her own personal experience as a host on a daily TV show.

“I don’t think they, and I’m talking about networks, understand the added sensitivity that we have as black creatives and black journalists,” she said. “There are certain things we can say and things we can’t say when talking about certain subject matter and so she said she’s going to talk to CBS and hash that out.”

As previously reported King came under fire for questioning Lisa Leslie about Bryant’s 2003 sexual assault case during their interview on CBS This Morning.

King later explained that the interview was about his entire life and legacy but understands how it was taken out of context when CBS only posted that part of the interview online.

To that end, Love says she personally asked the producers at The Real if they could just celebrate Kobe in the days following his untimely passing.

“The way I asked the show to handle it is we wanted to celebrate Kobe, we are in mourning and in shock, and when people are in mourning and they are in shock, timing is everything,” she explained. “So we have been having people come on and share their stories about Kobe and celebrate him.”

The Laker legend died in a helicopter crash on Sunday, January 26 alongside his 13-year-daughter Gianna and 7 others. A memorial for Bryant and Gigi is slated to take place on February 24, 2020 at the Staples Center.
