Tyler Perry Says ‘Homecoming’ Is Madea’s Last Hoorah

Madea is back like she never left.

After a brief hiatus in 2019, Tyler Perry has brought back the beloved matriarch for his new film A Madea Homecoming.

“I’m looking at civil unrest, the pandemic, the election, all this hell we’ve been seeing, and we needed a laugh,” Perry told HipHollywood when he asked about bring her out of retirement. “I just wanted to do something that made us flat out forget for a minute and just laugh.”

This time around Madea is getting her family together for her great-grandsons college graduation celebration. Perry gushed about this being her 10th film, reuniting with Cassi Davis and David and Tamela Mann and also making it to Netflix.

“The good thing about being on Netflix is that the whole world gets to see it at the same time, Madea has never had that platform.”

So does this mean he’s ready to revive the franchise on the streaming platform?

Back in 2019 he joked with HipHollywood about how Madea would like to be celebrated if she ever did perish when we interviewed him for A Madea Family Funeral.

According to the film and TV mogul he’s still not ready to kill-off his signature characater but insists this is her last movie.

“There’s no plans for her to go up yonder, but no plans for another movie either, so we’ll see what happens.”
