LeToya Luckett opens up for the first time about life after Destiny’s Child.
During an Instagram live conversation, a very pregnant Letoya said that because of the group’s early success, she hadn’t gone to college, and found herself struggling to build a new path in show business.
“The thought of singing made me angry,” she explained. “I didn’t believe I had a voice, I didn’t believe I could sing, I didn’t believe I could return to the music industry. Make a long story short, after surrendering and getting to know God on a whole ‘nother level…I learned to surrender, get out of my own way, stop living in fear and allow him to direct my path.”

The soon to be mother of two then shared that she fell on hard times while working on her debut album.
“During my journey I was staying at people’s house, I never told these stories before…I slept in a car in L.A. while I was making my first album. Not a lot of nights, but you know what I’m saying? I was drinking a gallon of water and buying the microwavable oodles of noodles [starts to weep] and I was cooking them in the coffee pot in the hotel …I can’t believe I’m crying.”
Letoya said despite it all she kept the faith. She then booked her first acting gig in the film Preachers Kid and was able to get out of her financial slump.
“After I did Preachers Kid I met Tank and God aligned us to work on my second album … yeah it was a lot,” she said.
Luckett was part of the Destiny’s Child, through the release of its blockbuster second album, “The Writing’s on the Wall.” She exited in 2000 amid a nasty battle with the band’s manager, and Bey’s father, Mathew Knowles.
Since she and the girls have mended their relationship and are on good terms she says.
