GG Noms: Eddie Murphy – The Comeback King + Beyonce Scores Big!

The Golden Globe nominations were announced on Monday morning and we’d be remiss if we didn’t say we were anticipating seeing more of our faves. In a year of incredible Black cinema, we were hoping to see that same enthusiasm reflected in the award show nominations. However, although that wasn’t exactly the case, we are excited for some of the stellar talent that was recognized.
EDDIE MURPHY – “DOLEMITE IS MY NAME”
Murphy’s comedic comeback tour is proving to be a hit. Dolemite is My Name, his first comedy in 7 years, has earned the 58-year-old a nomination for best performance by an actor in a motion picture – musical or comedy, in addition to the film nabbing a nod as well.
BILLY PORTER – “POSE”
Billy Porter scored a repeat in the best actor in a television drama category grabbing his second nomination in a row for his role on the FX hit Pose.
CYNTHIA ERIVO – “HARRIET”
And speaking of those with multiple nominations, Cythia Erivo scored two for Harriet this year, one for best actress and one for the film’s breakout song, “Stand Up.”
BEYONCÉ – “THE LION KING”
And in the same category, Beyonce’s musical efforts for The Lion King were recognized as well, as she received a nod for the original song “Spirit.”
Tune in to see who snags the win on Sunday, January 5th, when the Golden Globes air live on NBC.
