82-year-old Billy Dee Williams is a lot of things — actor, singer, possessor of effortless swag — but is he now adding gender fluid to that resume?
You may have seen that headline floating around, but, to be fair, that is not the language he used. However, Mr. Williams has revealed that he sees himself as, “as feminine as well as masculine.”
In an interview with Esquire, Billy doubled down on his “be yourself” motto for living life, “I never tried to be anything except myself. I think of myself as a relatively colorful character who doesn’t take himself or herself too seriously.”
The legendary actor, known for his role as the ever-so suave Lando Calrissian from the Star Wars films went on to explain why he identified with both pronouns:
“And you see I say ‘himself’ and ‘herself,’ because I also see myself as feminine as well as masculine. I’m a very soft person. I’m not afraid to show that side of myself.”
Ironically, Donald Glover gave that same energy when he took on the role of Lando in 2018’s Solo. When the Esquire writer pointed this out to Williams he stated, “Really? That kid is brilliant—just look at those videos,” referencing Glover’s “This Is America” (as Childish Gambino).
However, when we chatted with Billy, he was sure to remind us that no one, not even Glover, would ever match his swag! “Nobody has my swagger,” Williams told HH. And you know what, we’d have to agree!
Shout out to Billy Dee Williams living out loud at 82 years young!
