Some Hollywood heavy weights who Perry has cast over the years like Kerry Washington (For Colored Girls), Idris Elba (Daddy’s Little Girls) and Crystal Fox ( The Haves & the Have Nots) were on hand to praise him for giving an opportunity to so many actors and doing things his way!

“That’s all many us ever need is an opportunity,” said Fox. “Tyler me and many of us thank you for that, an opportunity.”

“You must remember that it celebrates a man who has resolutely blazed your own fierce and faithful path,” added Washington. “You are a supernova.”

Elba also thanked Perry for giving his career a boost after years of playing Stringer Bell on The Wire and being somewhat typecast.

Perry, who grew up in New Orleans, La, dedicated his star to the underdogs.

“For for all those folks whose dreams may be on life support, I want you to walk past this star in particular and know I’ve been there,” explained Perry. “I’ve been struggling, I’ve been broke, homeless, but there was a faith, a perseverance inside me and a hope that allowed me to keep going.”

His story is no doubt a rags to riches one. Perry ultimately went from poverty and sleeping in his car to taking over Hollywood and receiving a star on the prestige HOF. He told us what advice he’d give himself back when he was homeless and dreaming of one day making it big.

“That everything he’s feeling to continue to push, to continue to progress is right, that’s the voice of God, that is the voice of good that’s leading you to where you’re supposed to be.”

Perry will continue celebrating his monumental achievements this weekend as he hosts the official dedication ceremony for his Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta and gears up for the premiere of his two new series, Sistas and The Oval debuting on BET plus later this month.
