Jermaine Dupri is clearing up reports that Jay Z told him he shouldn’t do a deal with the NFL. Basically we’ve got ourselves a case of ‘He said, She said’ and Dupri is giving us the real straight from the horse’s mouth.

DUPRI BREAKS HIS SILENCE

The rapper, songwriter, producer and executive decided to speak his piece with radio host Big Tigger on Atlanta’s V103, on Wednesday. Dupri believes his simple assertion that he talked with Jay-Z about his own deal was blown way out of proportion and wants us to know what Bryan Michael Cox and Funkmaster Flex have claimed is simply not true.

“He and I never had a conversation where he told me, ‘don’t do what you’re doing.’ What our conversation was… ‘you know what side I’m on, I understand what you’re doing.’ That’s what the conversation was,” Dupri explained.

WHAT REALLY HAPPENED?

To be clear, the Dupri/NFL deal in question involved a series of free shows held in Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Park in the days before Super Bowl LIII.

Dupri said the reason he ended his dealings with the NFL was simply because of the backlash he recieved from fans NOT Hova.

FUNK AIN’T BUYING IT

Following news of Jay-Z’s partnership with the professional football league, and his highly publicized announcement with commissioner Roger Goodell, Funk Flex expressed his dismay over Jay’s deal. He also claimed Jay deterred Dupri from making a similiar deal last year and then tweeted that he and Dupri spoke and he confirmed it.

“I JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE WITH JERMAINE DUPRI… HE CONFIRMED THAT WHEN HE WAS WORKING WITH THE NFL LAST YEAR HE DID GET A CALL FROM JAYZ ASKING HIM.. “HOW DEEP ARE U IN WITH THE NFL?” EXPRESSING… “THAT MIGHT NOT BE A GOOD IDEA,” the Hot 97 DJ tweeted in all caps.

Despite Dupri’s explanation, Flex is doubling down on his claims. On Thursday he posted a clip from the So So Def founders interview with the caption:

“NFL / ROCNATION applying that pressure for YOU to backpedal.” He’s clearly not buying this explanation and isn’t here for JAY-Z partnering with the NFL. He reposted the Atlanta musician’s interview and ended the caption saying, “( I finally understand what Kap / Nessa been Experiencing! )”
