R. Kelly remains in headlines after he was arrested last week in Chicago and hit with 18 charges in two cities. The singer now is facing a 13-count indictment in Chicago and a five-count indictment New York. While he has plead not guilty for his charges in Chicago, his judge has denied bail leaving Kelly in solitary confinement until his trial begins.

Well despite the latest family drama, Kelly’s ex-wife Andrea Kelly and their daughter Joann aka Buku Abi are staying strong and looking forward to the future. The pair hit up the red carpet premiere for Power, Influence, and Hip-Hop: The Remarkable Rise of So So Def and one things for sure they are living life unbothered!

When asked about her father, Buku responded, “One thing I want people to understand and I’m only going to answer this as respectfully as I can. I’m not answering questions about my father, it’s not about him. It’s about me.”

Mama Kelly also let us know she could care less about the nosy folks trying to get in on the family business.

“There’s a lot of misconceptions but again I don’t care. I’m not Instagram, I’m not here for your likes,” Drea said.  “A lot of people want their curiosity satisfied and they will never get that insight into my life and the struggle and what we have been through as a family. But we’re the Kellys, we come back. We are like the Phoenix, we rise from the ashes and at the end of the day people will take from it what they want to. I’m not here to satisfy everybody’s curiosity. I’m here to build an empire and put my kids on the throne.”

Buku Abi is the latest addition on WeTV’s Growing Up Hip Hop Atlanta. Drea will also be making appearances on this season and says at the end of the day the show must go on.

“You can’t crawl under a rock and die, you have to keep going on and I’ve always said to my children the only time they will ever see their mother lay down is if I’m in a casket and I can’t get up. I will get up a thousand times for my kids and then some.”

As far as the Pied Piper goes, his lawyer Steven Greenberg tells reporters that he is being kept away from general population.

“He’s in 24-a-day solitary confinement essentially, it’s the hole,” Greenberg said. “Because that’s the safest place for them to house him, it’s not his fault, no TV, no anything, no contact with other people. It’s largely inhumane. “
