Let’s be clear — Eddie Murphy is still the reigning king of comedy, but he hasn’t dropped a stand-up special since his two iconic ones, Delirious (1983) and Eddie Murphy Raw (1987). However, the over three-decades-old wait may be coming to an end … word on the street is Eddie is Ready to hit the stage again.
In a clip of Jerry Seinfeld‘s Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, Murphy opens up about the possibility of doing stand-up again. “You know that you not doing stand-up drives people crazy — you know that, right?” Seinfeld, asked Murphy. Eddie recounted a story in which he revealed in his last conversation with the late comedian Don Rickles, he urged him to return to the stage. “I’m going to do it again,” Murphy said. “Everything just has to be right. You have to get up there and start working out. [I] still gotta go to the comedy club.”
Well, it seems like the stars are aligning for the 58-year-old father of 10. According to TMZ, Eddie is in talks with Netflix for a very lucrative stand-up special.
“Sources connected to Murphy tell TMZ … the comedian has been locked in talks with the streaming giant for an undisclosed number of comedy specials. We’re told negotiations are hovering right around $70 MILLION for the deal … though we’ve been unable to firmly confirm the exact figure.”
