These days, there’s a solid group of female newcomers on the music scene that are really exciting to watch — so much so, that the ones who dominated in previous generations are sitting up and taking notice. Insert SWV: Buzzfeed’s Cocoa Butter extension sat with R&B legends SWV to get their reactions to singers like H.E.R., Teyana Taylor, Jhene Aiko and more. While Taj and Lelee kept it cute, Coko had to cut some of these chicks down to size … and the internet is having a field day!
It all started with this video…

Clearly, Coko had love for some, but overall she was a bit underwhelmed. While some folks felt as though she was spot on, others felt the “Weak” lead singer was throwing unnecessary shade.
What I love about SWV, and why I will watch any show featuring them, is that they each represent one version of a classic Black auntie. And so many of us are turning into Coko if we aren’t there already. pic.twitter.com/39iYzxnwRW

instead of asking coko why she came for the girls’ vocals, ask yourselves why your fav has to sing with an auto tuned mic and a vocal track pic.twitter.com/O2lywMknUY

COKO FROM SWV IS A GREAT SINGER. Nobody is denying that. MY point is, being a great singer doesn’t give you the right to be nasty about other singers and their talent which might be different from yours. And YES saying a singer’s voice sounds like a computer is nasty. pic.twitter.com/n0En5KVduu

I appreciate the criticism veterans of the craft can provide to younger generations following after them, but Coko saying how she doesn’t see the potential of the artists shown is very off putting. https://t.co/nB6ocusgi7

Was Coko just keeping it real or being real mean?
