Kim Kardashian is shedding some light into Kanye West’s mental health issues.
Fans may recall, the A-list rapper revealed he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder on his eighth studio album titled Ye.
“That’s my bipolar shit, n—a what / That’s my superpower, n—a ain’t no disability,” he raps in the song “Yikes.” “I’m a superhero! I’m a superhero!”
A few months later however while meeting with President Donald Trump, West backtracked and said he was merely suffering from sleep deprivation.
In a candid new interview with Vogue, Kim said her husband is indeed bipolar after getting “conflicting assessments” from various doctors.
“I think we’re in a pretty good place with it now,” she told Vogue, adding that West is passionate about showing the world people can live normal lives with mental illness. “It is an emotional process, for sure. Right now everything is really calm. But we can definitely feel episodes coming, and we know how to handle them.”
Kim shared that Kanye won’t medicate to treat his disorder because of how it inhibits his creativity, so they’ve learned to adapt.
“For him, being on medication is not really an option, because it just changes who he is. Traveling a lot does set it off, so he doesn’t travel as much as he used to,” Kim shared. “But honestly, I never want to speak for him, because I am not in his mind. But I think some of the hurtful things that I read online … What is she doing? She’s not stopping him. … Like it’s my fault if he does or says something that they don’t agree with? That’s my husband. I share every opinion that I have and let him know when I think something’s wrong.
“Or if it comes to him being in the middle of a bipolar episode, I’ll do everything to be supportive and help to calm the situation.”
One situation though that Kim can’t calm is West’s passion for politics and penchant for MAGA hats.
“The one thing that I respect so much is that he is who he is, no matter what anyone tries to tell him to do. I can be sitting there crying: ‘OH, MY GOD! TAKE OFF THE RED HAT!’ Because he really is the sweetest person with the biggest heart.”
After a while, the “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star gave up on fighting West’s decisions because it was taking a toll on their marriage.
“I stopped caring, though. Because I used to care so much,” she admitted. “I was making it such an issue in our relationship. And in my life. It gave me so much anxiety.”
To be clear, Kardashian says West isn’t affiliated with one party.
“He doesn’t represent either side. But he doesn’t want to be told what he should be. It can be confusing. I get it,” she shared.
