Sad news to report about director John Singleton.
The 51-year-old suffered a stroke last Wednesday and is now in a coma. Singleton reportedly suffered a stroke after returning from Costa Rica and was experiencing issues with his legs. He is said to have checked himself into a Los Angeles hospital and suffered a stroke in his hospital room.
Per CNN the stroke was also severe despite initial reports and his mother has now applied for temporary conservatorship. The court documents were filed Thursday on behalf of Singleton’s mother, Shelia Ward. The papers state that Singleton is “currently hospitalized in a coma and is unable to provide for his personal needs” or “manage his financial resources.”
His family released the following statement over the weekend:
On Wednesday, April 17th our beloved son/father, John Singleton, suffered a stroke while at the hospital.
John is currently in the ICU and under great medical care.
We ask that privacy be given to him and our family at this time and appreciate all of the prayers that have been pouring in from his fans, friends and colleagues.
The Singleton Family
The announcement was met with a wave of support for the “Snowfall” Director on social media, producing messages from Snoop Dogg, Nia Long and Tyrese among others.
We are continuing to keep Singleton in our prayers.
