Who knew Idris Elba was also a king at comedy?
Besides being People’s “Sexiest Man Alive,” an award-wining actor, rapper and DJ, the British born star is showing off his comedic skills.
In his new TV series Turn Up Charlie Elba is bringing the laughs playing a down-and-out DJ who moonlights as a nanny for his famous best friend’s wild 11-year-old daughter.
“I’m a real goofball in real life but that doesn’t come across in my shows at all, my films characters and I wanted to show a little levity” he admitted. “This is closer to me as a person than people know so it didn’t feel like we were trying too hard to make you laugh.”
Elba, who has two children, daughter Isan 16 and son Winston 4, also got a chance to show off his parenting skills.
“I am very very affectionate with my kids, but they know not to cross the old man,” he explained. “Growing up my parents were very strict, I’m not as strict as my parents but culturally we can’t take kids being rude.”
His co-star Frankie Hervey, however certainly gives him a run for his money. The two don’t hit if off at first but eventually forge a cute bond that seemingly liken’s Elba’s own with his teenage daughter.
