Anthony Anderson: “The System Worked For Jussie, I Applaud That!”

It’s a new day. Jussie Smollett’s charges have been dropped, he’s landed in Los Angeles, and the NAACP Image Awards (where he is nominated for Best Actor) are being held this weekend. From this we’ve deduced that the big show may be his big chance to redeem himself. And if he does in fact show up, expect Image Awards host Anthony Anderson to tactful take notice.
HH caught up with Anderson backstage at the Dolby Theater as they prepare for the 50th annual NAACP Image Awards. The “black-ish” star says that he’s ready for his 6th hosting stint and will certainly bring the funny and the fashion. But, when the subject turned to his friend Jussie, the actor initially told us there would be no jokes, noting they planned to keep everything positive — but did an about face and stated that for the monologue, “no one is off limits!”
Anderson also reflected on Smollett’s situation saying that while the justice system doesn’t always work for Black and Brown people, “the system worked for Jussie, I applaud that.”
Do you agree with Anthony?
Hopefully, we see Jussie at the NAACP Image Awards where we’ll be holding down the red carpet on Saturday. The show airs live on TV One.
