We had our fingers-crossed, our toes-crossed and our eyes-crossed — and it paid off. Regina King is now an Oscar winner!!!
The seasoned vet took home her first Academy Award for her supporting performance as Sharon Rivers in “If Beale Street Could Talk”. Although she’s been a working actress since the age of 14, King has been long overdue for recognition on this stage. That sentiment was expressed as Regina received an eruption of cheers and a standing ovation from the crowd.
King cried tears of joy during her acceptance speech, in which she thanked the film’s director Barry Jenkins and her beautiful mother (who was in the crowd) — “Mom, I love you so much. Thank you for teaching me that God is always leaning, always has been leaning in my direction.” The 48-year-old also thanked her fellow nominees, Emma Stone, Rachel Weisz, Amy Adams and Marina de Tavira, calling them her “sisters in art” and stating, “It has been an honor having my name be just said with yours, this whole step of the way.”
She ended her emotional speech with “God is good all the time,” and we instinctively said, AND ALL THE TIME GOD IS GOOD!!!
We also caught up with King on the red carpet before her epic win. Sis was glowing. We knew it was definitely her night.
