Don’t believe everything you read … unless you read it here (wink, wink). It seems there’s some confusion surrounding Travis Scott, his scheduled Super Bowl performance and the people who really support it — namely, Colin Kaepernick.

When it was announced that Travie had signed up for the controversial gig, he naturally faced some criticism and backlash. But, just this week, the commentary turned into celebration when Scott stated that he only agreed to perform at the Super Bowl, alongside Maroon 5, in the NFL donated $500,000 to social justice reform. The rapper told People, “I know being an artist that it’s in my power to inspire. So before confirming the Super Bowl Halftime performance, I made sure to partner with the NFL on this important donation. I am proud to support Dream Corps and the work they do that will hopefully inspire and promote change.”

And to further that point, it was even reported, by Variety, that Travis had consulted with Kaepernick before signing on to perform.

Yay, right? Wrong!

Looks like Kaep, who was effectively blackballed from the NFL after his kneeling protest against social injustices, is not in support of Scott stepping on that stage. Colin’s friend, and Hot 97 host, Ebro retweeted Variety’s story calling BS! Then, Kaepernick retweeted Ebro’s tweet so that we knew it was real…

In their story Variety further explained the real conversation between Kaep and Travis:

“Scott and Kaepernick had at least one phone conversation before the rapper confirmed his Super Bowl appearance, sources tell Variety. A source close to Scott said that while the two did not necessarily agree, they emerged from the conversation with mutual respect and understanding, with the rapper taking the stance that everyone makes a statement in their own way and he felt that the money going toward Dream Corps, combined with the platform provided by the Super Bowl, will do some good.”

But, to double down on his point, Kaepernick also retweeted this post from his girlfriend, Hot 97 host Nessa:

Point. Blank. Period.

So, will you be watching the Super Bowl?
