Even Iyanla Can’t “Fix It”, Says R. Kelly Needs A Healing Not A Jailhouse

Iyanla Vanzant has used her “Fix My Life” platform to help dozens, if not hundreds, of people in need of restoration. However, there’s one person who she can’t even fix … R. Kelly.

It seems as though R. may have known the writing would soon be on the wall. The R&B singer reached out to Vanzant, even before the “Surviving R. Kelly” docu-series aired on Lifetime, in search of some fixing. However, Iyanla claims she doesn’t have the tools to help the alleged child molester.

“He didn’t meet one of the criteria that we had for guests,” Vanzant told ABC. “Are they willing? Are they ready? Do they have the capacity to do the work? He didn’t have it, the emotional capacity. He just didn’t have it, and I knew, based on what I was looking at — the paces I would have had to take him through — it would have been brutal. He didn’t have the capacity because he hasn’t done the work.”

But, even though it doesn’t sound like Kelly is ready to change his (allegedly) criminal ways, Iyanla still doesn’t think jail is the place for him.

“I would never, ever condone or justify anything that he’s been accused of doing,” she said. “But locking him up in jail is not the answer … he’s sick … Just like the people he allegedly committed these acts with — they’re sick. This needs to be massive healing — them, him, all of them.”

Do you agree with Vanzant — Should Kelly be behind bars or seeking a psychiatrist?
