Brian Tyree Henry Talks “Beale Street” SAG Awards Snub

“If Beale Street Could Talk” has been getting rave reviews and recognition throughout this awards season, and rightfully so. But one show unfortunately missed the mark — the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

It’s the show where actors honor actors, so it was a bit of a surprise that the group failed to not only recognize the film as a whole, but also didn’t show veteran actress Regina King, some love.

When we caught up with Regina’s “Beale Street” co-star, Brian Tyree Henry, he had a different take on the “snub”. “I’m just glad that story got to be told,” Henry told HH. “So, at the end of the day, award or not, I think that it was important and imperative that it happened.” So very true!

In addition, there are still many more awards to look forward to in the future like the biggie — Academy Awards! King is nominated for “Best Supporting Actress”, Barry Jenkins got the “Best Adapted Screenplay” nod, and “Beale Street” was also recognized under the “Best Original Music Score” category.

And, of course, we’re keeping our fingers-crossed for each nomination!
