Y’all, even little old aunties can get it in the 2019! Folks online have effectively cancelled Gladys Knight over her decision to singer the national anthem at this year’s Super Bowl.
Following in the footsteps of Travis Scott and Outkast’s Big Boi, Gladys has basically said ‘what boycott?’ and ‘Kaepernick who?’ when it comes to Super Bowl LIII. The 7-time Grammy winning singer will use her legendary voice to perform the Star Spangled Banner and, seemingly, won’t bat an eye over the haters.
“I am proud to use my voice to unite and represent our country in my hometown of Atlanta,” Knight said in a statement. “The NFL recently announced their new social justice platform Inspire Change, and I am honored to be a part of its inaugural year.”
Ummm, ok. We’re sure Colin and his continuous NFL boycott won’t be here for any of this as he co-signed on Twitter yesterday, essentially saying, if you’re with them, then you’re against me.
But, Colin’s not the only one who is probably against Gladys singing the National Anthem, the collective internet seems to be pretty peeved too. Many folks were quick to cancel the 74-year-old songstress.
But, she did receive a little support and some people even thought this would be a great opportunity to perform “Lift Every Voice And Sing”, the Black National Anthem.
So, you going with Gladys or backin’ Kaep?
