3 Most Shocking Revelations From “Surviving R. Kelly”

The first two parts of “Surviving R. Kelly” aired on Lifetime Thursday night and it was all anyone could talk about — and for good reason.

To call it shocking is almost an understatement. The alleged acts that Kelly involved himself in, time and time again, are alarming, disgusting and appalling. And that’s on top of what we already knew about the R&B singer!

The depth of Kelly’s disease seems to know no bounds, but there were at least three shocking revelations that we learned in the “SRK” docu-series that left our mouths hanging open…

We’ve all heard about how, in 1994, a then 27-year-old R. Kelly married Aaliyah when she was just 15. The illegal union was eventually annulled at the behest of the young singer’s family.

However, in the doc, claims were made that revealed the reason behind the hasty nuptial. Apparently, Aaliyah was carrying Kelly’s child!

Clearly caught in an illegal situation, this explains why the “Sex Me” singer sought out his tour manager to have falsified documents created showing that Aaliyah was 18 in order to get hitched. When that plan fell apart, Aaliyah’s family stepped and helped her “take care” of the pregnancy.

The Pied Piper of Hamelin is a (possibly fictional) character from a story dating back to 1284 Germany. In short, the pied piper was hired as a rat-catcher and used his musical pipe to lure the rodents out of the small town. However, the towns folk didn’t appreciate him and refuse to pay him for his services. The PP retaliated by using his musical gift to lure the towns children away from their parents just as he had done the rats.

Cut to R. Kelly, who has often referred to himself as the Pied Piper of R&B. Over the years, Kells has used his musical talents and prestige to lure young girls away from their willing parents and into a life of sexual abuse and harassment. He would sit outside of the local high school, manipulate young girls with his influence … and then have threesomes with 14-year-olds on a regular basis.

He was literally screaming clues at us all along! Not to mention songs like “Age Ain’t Nothin’ But A Number” … it is when that number is under 18!

His family knew. His friends knew. His employees knew. His collaborators knew. Even the record label knew.

And they did absolutely nothing.

The documentary is filled with numerous people saying they knew R. had a problem. Moreover, they knew he was hunting, hurting and destroying young, Black girls, but again, they did nothing. One of the main take-aways from “Surviving R. Kelly” is that they only reason this man was able to continue his path of destruction was because of the myriad people in his life that became complacent in the horror.

If you’re not a part of the solution, then you’re a part of the problem.

Two additional hours of “Surviving R. Kelly” will air tonight, Friday, January 4, at 9pm and the final installment of the six-part documentary series will debut on Saturday, January 5, at 9pm ET/PT.
