Kevin Hart should be on cloud nine after locking down his dream gig to host the Oscars, but in the last 24 hours there has been growing backlash against Hart getting the nod.
Comments that the comedian made back in 2010 during his stand-up “Seriously Funny” are being deemed homophobic and several have called for the Academy to remove Kevin.
Kevin responded to the uproar today, saying that he has grown since that time and that people need to move past the comments.
The “Night School” actor, 39, also shared a video of himself lying in bed on Instagram Thursday night in which he spoke about the resurfacing of his previous tweets which have been deleted.
Hart also recognized that while jokes of that magnitude were once widely common amongst stand-up comedians, it’s no longer appropriate.
“My team calls me, ‘Oh my God, Kevin, the world is upset about tweets you did years ago.’ Oh my God. Guys, I’m almost 40 years old. If you don’t believe that people grow, change, evolve as they get older, I don’t know what to tell you,” he said.
