Grammy Noms Are In And You Won’t Believe Who Got Snubbed!

The Grammy nominations were announced Friday and most of the usuals made the cut — Drake, Kendrick, Cardi B, etc. — no surprises there (see the full list HERE). However, what is surprising is the list of folks they chose NOT to include.

Actually, this year’s snubs are a bit different. These folks scored nods from The Recording Academy, but not in the categories you would expect. So, still a snub? You decide!

Bey and Jay gave us Everything Is Love and in return the Grammys gave them 3 noms overall. However, instead of getting shine in the Record of the Year or Album of the Year categories, the Carters received recognition as candidates in the R&B categories. Things that make you go hmmm…

Kanye’s “Ye” album wasn’t an across-the-board fave, and aside from that, people seem to be exhausted by his recent antics. So, the word “snub” may be a stretch for this one. However, Ye’s one nomination was surprisingly not in the Rap category. The rapper/producer scored a nomination for “Producer of the Year, Non-Classical” for his work on the series of albums his G.O.O.D. Music label dropped over the summer.

Who was a bigger breakout star this year than Ella Mai? We’ll wait … The “Boo’d Up” singer is up for Song of the Year and Best R&B Song, but was completely ignored for the Best New Artist category. Bit of a shocker, no?

Outside of the snubs, there were a few surprises that made us smile. Both H.E.R. and Chloe x Halle received a few nominations, including Best New Artist, and you have to admit … that’s pretty dope! Also, Janelle Monae’s “Dirty Computer,” plus”Black Panther: The Album” being recognized in the Album of the Year category is amazing. And we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention Toni Braxton’s multiple nominations — no surprise, but just exciting to watch her flourish in longevity!

The 61st Grammy Awards air Feb. 10 on CBS, broadcast live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Will you be watching?
