Apparently Snoop Dogg is not only brilliant at spitting verses but also giving speeches.
Just one week after his hilarious, albeit inspirational, walk of fame speech went viral, Snoop was back at the podium speaking about his mentor and dear friend Quincy Jones. Snoop was tapped as one of the speakers for Jones’ Hand and Footprint Ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood and he did not disappoint.
Draped in a black wool coat with fur trim, slacks and his signature Stacey Adams dress shoes, Snoop spoke about Jones’ influence on his career and others in hip-hop.
“When we first started rapping our music wasn’t so positive but Q saw something in us to help us shape our lives as he shaped his life, ” he explained. “Quincy, I want to thank you for being a role model, an inspiration, for being a great father, a great producer, a mentor, an uncle and being a great friend to us in hip-hop.”
A week earlier Snoop also thanked Jones for his influence when he received a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame, before turning the attention to himself.
“I want to thank me for believing in me, I want to thank me for doing all this hard work, I want to thank me for having no days off, I want to thank me for never quitting, I want to thank me for always being a giver and trying to give more than I receive,” he said. “I want to thank me for trying to do more right than wrong, I want to thank me for just being me at all times. Snoop Dogg, you a bad motherf*****.”
As you can imagine, the internet had a field day.
Meanwhile, Jones’ daughter actress Rashida Jones, Usher, Dr. Dre and NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar were also on hand to salute the music legend who is the first film composer to be honored in the famed Chinese Theatre forecourt.
The 85-year-old told the audience that at the age of 15 he knew he wanted to compose and create music.
“I was so addicted at 15 years old, I can’t tell you,” Jones said. “… I used to sit in the theater and think about composing music for these films. And I was absolutely addicted. I could never have imagined that those dreams would lead me to here, to this moment, and to be honest, it is a little bit overwhelming.”
