UPDATE: Oprah Speaks On Mother’s Passing, Fans Send Love And Support

Oprah Winfrey has finally spoken out regarding the passing of her mother, Vernita Lee. IN an Instagram post, Winfrey thanks fans for their kind words and support during this time.

Oprah Winfrey’s mother, Vernita Lee, has passed away at the age of 83.

On Monday, a spokeswoman for Lady O issued a statement saying Lee died at her Milwaukee home on Nov. 22 (Thanksgiving Day). Additionally, the spokeswoman stated that a private funeral service had already been held. No other details were provided.

Winfrey has not issued a personal statement, nor has she mentioned the passing of her mother on social media. However, that didn’t stop fans from sending an avalanche of love her way. In the comment section of an IG post from three days ago, many supporters wrote encouraging words and left heart-warming messages for the fave.

In the early onsets of her career, Oprah’s relationship with her mother was strained. When she was born, Winfrey was primarily raised by her maternal grandmother in Mississippi, as Vernita went to Milwaukee to work as a housemaid. When the talk show queen turned 6, she then went to live with Lee, but has stated that the transition was tough. It was during this time that Oprah was molested by a cousin and uncle.

Thankfully, in later years, the OWN CEO mended her relationship with her mother and even had her on The Oprah Winfrey Show for a makeover in 1990.

RIP Vernita Lee.
